DOT Physicals
for Drivers in Pensacola, Milton, Pace, Gulf Breeze, FL & Beyond

If you get paid to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Florida, there is a good chance you are required to periodically receive a DOT physical or DOT exam. The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires these exams to be completed in order for professionals such as truck and bus drivers to obtain or maintain their commercial driving license and to make sure that nothing will negatively impact their driving performance.

In order to comply with federal law, a qualified medical examiner must complete your DOT physical. At Northwest Florida Physicians Group, LLC, we offer DOT physicals to residents in Pensacola, Milton, Pace, Gulf Breeze, FL and throughout the state of Florida.

What Happens During a DOT Exam?

During a DOT physical, your medical history will be reviewed, and you will be asked to list any medications you take on a regular basis. During the exam, the physician will often:

  • Check your blood pressure and pulse
  • Perform a vision test as drivers required to have at least 20/40 acuity in each eye
  • Test for color blindness
  • Examine your ears and check your hearing
  • Check the spine deformities
  • Check your mouth and throat for problems breathing or swallowing
  • Perform a neurological exam to make sure your coordination and reflexes are not impaired
  •  Examine ability to bend, reach and climb
  • Listen to your heart and lungs for murmurs and respiratory problems
  • Press on your abdomen to check for abnormalities and perform a hernia check
  • Conduct urinalysis for indications of underlying medical conditions
